Help ghosts and try not to die… Affairs of the Dead by A.J. Locke

Description:

Help ghosts, stop a thief, and try not to die…

Necromancer Selene Vanream helps ghosts settle their affairs so they can move on. But when breaking the rules gets her in trouble, she’s bumped down to tracking ghosts trying to avoid the afterlife. Ghosts like Ethan Lance, who claims he was kicked out of his body when someone else jumped in. Which might be plausible—if such a thing were possible. And if Micah, Selene’s partner, didn’t pull her into an investigation of brutal murders that lead directly back to Ethan.

But when the whole mess puts Selene’s life in danger, she suddenly has very personal reasons to get Ethan’s body back. Between her uncomfortable relationship with Micah, and problems with her boss, Selene learns just how much trouble it can be when you don’t follow the rules…

There are so many good things to say about this book. The set up with ghosts, necromancers, witches, the government. There are some excellent plans laid down for the plot and world building. I will say, I wish I knew just a tad bit more of the main characters “past” but honestly, I didn’t even realize it until I wrote this review. There are so many things keeping you on your toes that you don’t really care about childhood, and backstories. I really look forward to where this series can go. And that ending, though it’s not a cliffhanger, it is a definitely a shocker as you will say “holy…..” - Goodreads

CONTEST
I am supposed to propose one of the craziest, funniest, most outrageous or creative unfinished business that would cause a ghost to stick around. Time and my own imagination were not my best friends today so I could not come with any good idea. I tried: conquer the Everest, to scare  - nearly - to death, one more time, the ghost's daughter in law, to defeat the Death itself, to find the Yeti or Sasquatch, to play a part in Sons of Anarchy, or to complete the process of choosing the right religion based on the characteristic of heaven ... or hell...

To do things more appealing for you, I will force the rules and offer you the possibility to win an ecopy of Affairs of the Death. What you have to do is to give me a crazy, funny, outrageous or creative unfinished business you can think of that would cause a ghost to stick around and I'll choose the winner. You have time until 7th of November (you could win author's prize too - see in the comments)

Mythical Books' winner is Christyna BM

Her lover left one night and never came back a few weeks later she found out she was pregnant, she hid it from the world. She moved to a remote location in the woods and had the child at home with the help of a midwife she had befriended. Alone in her cabin raising a child by herself she vowed one day to make sure the baby would know the father. A few years later when the child was 3 . The mother left the child with the midwife to make a trip to town. On the way back home she was ran off the road by a semi truck and died in the crash. She had told the midwife that if anything was to happen to her that she was to take care of her baby if she had not found the babies father. It was easy finding him while she was dead all she had to do was concentrate hard enough and Bam there she was in his bedroom staring down at his sleeping form. She hovered for a few moments trying to decide of a way to let him know, so far she hasn't been able to move anything, she decided to stay with him only leaving to check on her child , until she could find away to tell him about his daughter.

So, When the economy was better my cousin and I ran a dog and cat kennel. Not a pound, but where the pets go when the owners are on vacation. It was extremely old and we would have weird activity here and there. The quiet dogs all barking suddenly and looking in one spot. We heard disembodied voices etc and one time an older man in overalls was seen where we fed the dogs and kept blankets and of course he wasn't really there. I always thought it would make a fun location for a ghost story because most people say animals can see ghosts etc.
